August 2021, Ermida de São Roque, Tavira. Commissioned by Joana Carmo for Museu Zer0.

Salt has an ancient connection with Tavira, with its production in the area going back millennia. Today, salt is still very relevant to the local economy and culture, and salt ponds are a striking element in the landscape. Working in a 16th-century chapel, we took inspiration from the culture and the sounds of salt and the ocean. The chapel’s nave housed most of the apparatus, while the chancel was a resonant chamber. Sounds were organised in two sets, one echoing the cadence of breaking waves, the other exploring granular sounds that evoked processes of crystallisation.
